TAFTA - Ad hoc meeting at European Commission

On May 17th, the European Commission held a meeting with Civil society to collect feedback on the Transatlantic Free Trade Area (TAFTA), also known as Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which purpose is to set up a free trade area between the United States and the European Union.

Ultimate Circle had previously joined the IP out of ACTA Civil Society Declaration which calls for exclusion of 'any provisions related to patents, copyright, trademarks, data protection, geographical indications, or other forms of so-called intellectual property'.

Fake transparency as a reaction to ACTA's rejection is to be feared. A resolution 'to wind up the debate' is currently under examination process at European Parliament.
